These Days

These Days
Nandd2

I don’t know how to love these days,

With broken heart and jagged soul.

For half a century it was easy

As you grew near and dear to me.

Your smile warmed me like a hearth,

Your softest kiss set my heart aflame,

And burned inside me like a candle’s wick,

Our bodies formed to fit,

In hugs in snuggles or in spoons

Depending on the time

Depending on the mood

And over time

With rings exchanged

Our fate and souls entwined,

We came to think of us, as us,

Instead of you and me,

There are two sides to any coin,

We fought like dog and cat,

No picture ever hung was straight,

No destination ever reached without a spat,

But were you here I’d walk on coals,

To hold you in my arms again

I don’t know how to love these days,

With jagged soul and heart most broke.

So instead, I spend my time,

when they were whole,

In my fondest memories

Deep in your embrace.
