The Wayfarer - 1973
In the distance
The wayfarer grows smaller,
as he passes
birds rise from roadside bushes
His dusty footsteps
send trails of smoke
that frame
the sky and wintery mountains
In their embrace
sits the sunset
Fleeing southward, fearing hunger
the flock alights, beneath my terrace
I raise my hand in gratitude
to this wanderer for their company
They eat their meal in conversation
as I sit and drain my glass
