A Glimpse of Tupelo Honey

A Glimpse of Tupelo Honey

It doesn't take much,
a random thought,
the first notes of a Van Morrison song,
or a thousand others,
each tied to images,
to memories,
the soundtrack of our story.

I can see your lips move,
your hips move,
and I begin to sway,
as I feel you pull my heartstrings toward you.

Yes, I am smiling,
and yes those are tears,
made from grief, gratitude, joy.

What I have found over time,
as my feet have worn smooth
the jagged stones of the journey,
is that you are never farther
than a cherished memory.

I am not alone,
you are with me every day.
