My sweet bride, what have I learned
since we started our journey down this road?
I thought I knew bravery, grace and beauty
I thought I couldn’t love you, admire you,
or cherish you more than I did.

But each day, as we faced the darkness,
Your bravery gave me hope,
your grace filled my heart
Our love grew as you clung to me for warmth.
and I clung to you for strength

When your soul tired of this stardust shell,
And fled to seek another realm,
I howled at the star lit sky,
demanding that it bring you back.

At first my grief,
was a dervish dance,
I spun round and round,
Certain that my broken heart,
Would make me stumble
And tumble like a child’s toy

And I would crash to the floor
Like a porcelain doll
And each piece of me
would miss you more

But I could hear you, I could hear you scolding me,
Not that you loved me less
You came to me in dreams
And sent angels to salve my wounds

You appeared to me in the faces
of our children’s children
and sent me to the boardwalk
to walk along the Sound
You whispered in my ear
And guided my hand upon the page

You frowned until I promised you
That I would learn to live and laugh again
And made me uncross my fingers when I lied
So I have taken steps, small steps but steps in that direction
And hope that I have a put a smile upon your face.

And know that I will hold you once again when my journey ends.
